Among the leaves so green
Oh here we come a hunkerin’
So fair to be seen…
Oh no wait…that’s wassailing, not hunkerin'. Though I do wonder, aren't the green leaves usually off the trees by wassailing time? At any rate, to quote The Blogess (whose blog I LOVE):
Hi. I’m alive. I know, half of you are all “THANK GOD! I’VE BEEN SO WORRIED!” and the other half are all ”Big whoop, so am I” and the other half are like “this girl can’t do math”In addition to loving that blog, I also love electricity (which we got back last night).
I LOVE electricity!!!!! LOVE IT!!!! Love it, love it, love it! I especially love being able to heat food.
I hope to love running water again sometime soon. In the meantime at least we figured out that we can use the neighborhood pool water for flushing the toilet.
We still have some bottled water though. Because, y’know, they advised us to buy bottled water. They advised us to tank up on gas.
But if there was any one thing they advised us to do over and over and over (and over and over and over), it was hunker.
How exactly does one “hunker”, you might ask? We weren’t really sure ourselves, but by Saturday afternoon we got pretty dang good at it.
I have a bunch of pictures of us hunkerin'. But at the moment I'm missing the little thingy-me-bobber that makes the pictures load into the computer.
Of course I have the requisite pictures of damage and destruction. Thankfully I took MOST of those pictures outside the confines of home.
I hope to be reunited with the pictures AND running water sometime soon. And I'll post the hunkerin' pictures as soon as I can.
In the meantime...
Love and Joy come to you
And to you your wassail too
And God bless you and send you a happy new year
And God send you a happy new year
At least a happy Jewish new year (later this month), and one free from hunkerin’.

Happy later this month new year to you too.
Does one have to be a hunk to hunker? That would make it easy for me ;)
I'm glad you're safe and in, seemingly, good spirits.
Happy Jewish Hunker Free New Year! Yay for electricity!
I dunno SJ, I'm not a hunk and I've managed to hunker...then again, I'm hunkering with a hunk... :-)
Thanks Delmer! Yeah, my spirits haven't worn thin just yet.
Thanks Jenny! I'd try & think of something wittier, but I'm all star-struck. :-)
I am very glad that you're still alive. And I am also glad that you have electricity. And math is totally overrated.
Glad to hear that you and your hunk are hunkerin' just fine.
I believe the leaves that are green are pine needles and holly leaves and nandina and other stuff that stays green no matter what.
My husband keeps saying "Yeah, I think sooner or later we're going to end up in Houston." I am not sure what that means, exactly, but please get all the hunkering done before I arrive.
Oh good to hear that all is well! I'm rather interested to see what these pictures of yours look like.
There are too many jokes about hunks and hunkering already. I will not add to the madness. :P
Thanks Alf! We even got a trickle of water tonight...here's hopin'!
Christine - Good, then we can hang out!!! And don't worry - I think I hunkered plenty for you!!!!
Derek - Thanks & I'll get the pictures up when I can!
Oh yeah & Christine, that's what I ***thought*** the leaves so green must mean, but it's sort of confusing, y'know? I don't really think of pine needles as leaves so much. Like I wouldn't say, "Hey look at the leaves on that pine tree!" Then I wondered if England just had different seasons than us and then I got distracted by ADD and forgot to wonder any more.
YAY! Ur safe! :-) Maybe you liked hunkering so much that it will become a fun weekend activity! No?
Hunkering sounds like fun... if you can do it without that pesky "hurricane" thing....
Glad to hear you're safe.
It's a New Year miracle!
Janet and Maureen - Yeah, I prefer to do my hunkerin' WITH electricity and water and without the closet door blowing off and roof leaks. :-) :-) :-)
People - It's feeling that way, especially with the electricity and water. Hopefully I'll get phone & internet back at my place soon too!
