How to Plan a Bar Mitzvah in Two and a Half Weeks

I don't actually know how to plan a bar mitzvah in two and a half weeks, but I'm trying to learn. If I get any worthwhile experience, I'll pass it on. Come to think of it, I have a day less than two weeks now.

There's just not another way to describe this week besides "bad". A good friend of my parents passed away unexpectedly and a good friend of mine discovered a very serious health condition.

Here she is all happy and dancing at the wedding. She's in black, I'm in the makeshift wedding dress, and my other friend is in greenish-yellowish and black, and they're both of them the best friends a person could ever want:But she made it through what more or less amounts to brain surgery, so even though it's Chanukah, it's actually a second Thanksgiving.

So happy (C)han(n)uk(k)a(h) people! That's how my friend/coworker has decided it should be spelled and I completely agree. And happy second Thanksgiving too!

Thank you Cid. She made it through the scariest part with the brain surgery, but she still has radiation left to go, so it is very much appreciated.

A touching post. I'm sorry for your loss...and at the same time, thankful your friend made it through surgery. Hugs.

Wow! A Bar Mitzvah and all those other health concerns as well! I'm so glad your friend is doing better. I'm sure it'll boost your energy knowing that she's on the mend. Good luck with all your plans.

Thanks Marlene and Maria! She's got a good long way to go, but hopefully nothing like what she went through this past week ever, ever again.

Wow, a lot of things going on in your life right now. Hopefully life will start to slow down and you can enjoy the holidays. Healing prayers sent for your dear friend, and so sorry for the loss of your parents friend.

Prayers for your friend. Know what it feels like :-(. Thanksgiving for her recovery so far!
As for 2 and a half week Bar Mitzvahs, I do not believe for a second that you do not have everything planned to the nth degree. I didn't say anything about having it booked and locked in but I'm sure you know what you WANT to happen :-D

Thank you Esther! I keep saying "I'm never going to sign up for anything ever again!" in an attempt to get things to slow down. But I always do. It's like a disease.

Thank you Ingrid!

Arizaphale - Yes, I was remembering when I posted this that you had a health scare recently of a friend where you were afraid for her very life. I do hope your friend is doing okay too. So not fun.

Awww... I have goosebumps... the latest news is that she is doing very well and her vision has returned to normal even when in a car - yeah! Thanks for all the prayers. I think that we are supposed to learn from this experience - perhaps we should make time to get together more often! Oh and "Yes, you can" finish getting ready for the Bar Mitzvah and write all the papers that are due in the next week!

Jill said...

Teresa - Would you believe I wrote two 8 page long papers in two days? Ok, maybe it was three days, and that includes like the reference pages and stuff. Still... ;-) :-) ;-) I totally think you're totally, totally right on the learning from this, at least, I've been thinking that too.

Awwwwwwwww, Jill...thanks for the mention on your blog. Thanksgiving ---yes! Because all is good, and I'm feeling well, and this thing is managable. The scariest part is behind me, and radiation----just means I get a 20 minute rest time every day, right? ;-)

I'm so sorry to hear about your parents' friend. What a week you had!

But the Bar Mitzvah will be great, I'm sure...I'm thinking I'll be there on Saturday with teh Nounous if they can take me, and on Sunday....we'll just play it by ear.

Thank you so much for visiting me in the hospital and for keeping my family company the day of the surgery. You are a good friend, and I love you. xoxoxoxox

I've definitely had better weeks, that's for certain! Still, NOTHING compared to what you went through!!!!! I do hope I see you at the bar mitzvah, but do what you're able. Like I said you know...you'll be there with us even if you decide it's best for you to stay home. :-) :-) :-)
